How to Use the Unit Converter
- 1Pick a categoryClick one of the five tabs at the top: Length, Weight, Temperature, Volume, or Data. The converter resets to a sensible default pair for that category.
- 2Select your From unitUse the dropdown on the left panel to choose the unit you are converting from — for example, Kilogram for a weight conversion.
- 3Enter your valueType the number you want to convert into the input field. Decimals and negative values are supported.
- 4Select your To unitUse the dropdown on the right panel to pick the target unit — for example, Pound. The result updates instantly.
- 5Use the swap buttonClick ⇄ to reverse the direction. The result becomes the new input so you can immediately convert back.
- 6Read the full tableScroll down to the All Conversions table to see your value in every unit of the category at once. The highlighted row is your selected To unit.
cm to Inches — and Other Length Conversions
How many inches in a centimeter? 1 cm = 0.3937 in. Divide centimeters by 2.54 to get inches. Common values: 30 cm = 11.81 in · 100 cm = 39.37 in · 170 cm = 66.93 in (about 5 ft 7 in) · 180 cm = 70.87 in (5 ft 11 in).
Meters to feet: 1 m = 3.28084 ft. Multiply meters by 3.281. So 1.8 m = 5.91 ft, and 100 m = 328 ft.
Miles to kilometers: 1 mile = 1.60934 km. A 5K = 3.107 miles. A marathon (42.195 km) = 26.22 miles.
Inches to cm: multiply inches by 2.54. So 6 inches = 15.24 cm, 12 inches (1 foot) = 30.48 cm.
kg to lbs, °C to °F — Weight & Temperature
Kilograms to pounds: 1 kg = 2.20462 lbs. Multiply kg by 2.205. Common values: 50 kg = 110.2 lbs · 70 kg = 154.3 lbs · 100 kg = 220.5 lbs. To convert lbs to kg, divide by 2.205.
Celsius to Fahrenheit: °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32. Key reference points: 0°C = 32°F (freezing) · 20°C = 68°F (room temp) · 37°C = 98.6°F (body temp) · 100°C = 212°F (boiling).
Fahrenheit to Celsius: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9. So 72°F = 22.2°C · 98.6°F = 37°C.
Liters to gallons: 1 L = 0.264172 US gal. So 10 L = 2.64 gal · 40 L = 10.57 gal. To go the other way: 1 US gal = 3.785 L.
Metric vs Imperial: A Practical Guide
Most of the world uses the metric (SI) system — meters, kilograms, liters — while the United States primarily uses the imperial system — feet, pounds, gallons. The UK uses a mix.
Common crossover points: 1 inch = 2.54 cm exactly (by international agreement). 1 pound = 453.592 grams. 1 mile = 1.60934 km. 1 US gallon = 3.78541 liters.
When cooking from international recipes, volume conversions matter most: 1 US cup = 236.6 mL. UK recipes sometimes use metric, sometimes imperial — always check which gallon (US = 3.785 L, UK = 4.546 L) the recipe uses. This tool uses US measurements for cups, pints, quarts, and gallons.
Binary vs Decimal Data Units
Data storage has two competing standards that cause constant confusion.
Decimal (SI): KB = 1,000 bytes, MB = 1,000,000 bytes, GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. Hard drive manufacturers and network speeds use this standard.
Binary (IEC): KiB = 1,024 bytes, MiB = 1,048,576 bytes, GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes. Operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) typically display storage in these units, which is why a "1 TB" drive shows as roughly 931 GiB on your computer.
This converter includes both sets so you can quickly confirm how much storage you're actually getting.
Common Use Cases
Frequently Asked Questions
To convert centimeters to inches, divide the centimeter value by 2.54. For example, 30 cm ÷ 2.54 = 11.81 inches. In this tool, select Length, choose Centimeter as the From unit and Inch as the To unit, then enter your value.
To convert kilograms to pounds, multiply the kilogram value by 2.20462. For example, 70 kg × 2.20462 = 154.32 lbs. Select the Weight category, set From to Kilogram and To to Pound.
The formula is °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32. So 100°C = 212°F. Select the Temperature category, choose Celsius as From and Fahrenheit as To, then enter the temperature. The tool also supports Kelvin.
GB (Gigabyte) uses the decimal (SI) definition: 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. GiB (Gibibyte) uses the binary (IEC) definition: 1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes. Hard drive manufacturers use GB while operating systems often display GiB, which is why a 1 TB drive shows roughly 931 GiB on your computer.
1 mile = 1.60934 kilometers. To convert miles to km, multiply the miles by 1.60934. For example, 26.2 miles (a marathon) ≈ 42.195 km. Select Length, choose Mile as From and Kilometer as To.
1 liter = 0.264172 US gallons. To convert liters to gallons, multiply by 0.264172. Note this tool uses US gallons. Select the Volume category, choose Liter as From and Gallon (US) as To.
Yes. Use the ⇄ swap button to reverse the conversion direction — the result becomes the new input. You can also simply change the From and To unit dropdowns independently at any time.
The All Conversions table shows your input value converted to every unit in the selected category simultaneously. The highlighted row is your selected To unit. This lets you compare across all units at a glance without switching dropdowns.
