Freelance Dashboard — Daily Focus Log + Kanban Board in One Tab

About this tool

One Tab for Your Entire Freelance Workflow — Focus, Log, and Ship

Most productivity setups for freelancers involve three or four separate tabs: a daily planner, a task board, a notes app, and a log of what you actually did. Switching between them breaks focus and makes it hard to match what you planned with what you actually shipped. The Freelance Dashboard combines a Daily Focus Log in the left sidebar with a full Kanban project board on the right — everything lives in one browser tab, everything saves instantly to your browser's IndexedDB, and nothing leaves your device. This tool runs fully in your browser — no data is uploaded, ensuring complete privacy for your daily notes, task lists, and project details.

Left sidebar: Daily Focus Log (compressed). The left panel is a stripped-down, high-density version of the standalone Daily Focus Log tool. At the top you have today's focus tasks — numbered, checkable, editable inline with double-click, and draggable to reorder. Below that is a stats strip showing your current day streak, tasks done today, and log entries. A weekly bar chart gives you a visual read on how productive the last seven days have been. The monthly progress calendar lets you click any past day to review its tasks and log — color intensity shows how active each day was. At the bottom of the sidebar is the Work Log section.

Work Log: everything you actually did. The Work Log is where you record what happened during the day — not just what you planned. Each entry is timestamped and searchable. Add entries using the textarea (Shift+Enter for a new line, Enter to log it). Click the :) button to insert emoji from a categorized picker that opens upward so it never overflows the sidebar. Click the paperclip to attach any file — images are shown as thumbnails in the log entry and can be clicked to view in a lightbox. Non-image files appear as downloadable pills with file type icons and sizes. Search entries by keyword and toggle between "This day" and "All days" to scan across your entire history. The "Logged Links" button opens a slide-over panel that collects every URL from every log entry across all days — a quick way to find a reference you logged weeks ago.

Right panel: Mini Kanban project board. The right side of the dashboard is the full Mini Kanban board — projects, columns, tasks, due dates, checklists, rich text descriptions, file attachments, task history, archive protection, drag-and-drop, search, and ZIP export/import. The two sides share the screen but use separate data stores — your daily focus and log live in the Daily Focus Log database, and your kanban projects live in the Mini Kanban database. Switching to the standalone Mini Kanban tool on another tab shows the same data.

Sidebar toolbar: undo, redo, import, export, clear. At the bottom of the sidebar a compact toolbar mirrors the header controls from the standalone Daily Focus Log tool. Auto Saved confirms your data is written. Undo and Redo step through your edit history (up to 50 snapshots). Import loads a ZIP backup created by either the Freelance Dashboard or the standalone Daily Focus Log tool. Export downloads a ZIP archive of all your days' tasks and log entries, including every file attachment stored in IndexedDB. Folder lets Chrome/Edge users choose a local backup folder, including a synced Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or iCloud Drive folder, so future exports save there. Clear wipes all daily focus and log data after a confirmation step.

Shared data, no duplication. The Freelance Dashboard reads from and writes to the same IndexedDB databases as the standalone Daily Focus Log and Mini Kanban tools. Data you log in the dashboard appears immediately in the standalone tools and vice versa. You can use the standalone tools for their individual features — the Daily Focus Log backup alert, the Mini Kanban task history slideshow, the lightbox for images — while keeping the dashboard open for the combined view.

Designed for the freelancer's real workday. The typical freelance workday involves two kinds of work happening simultaneously: executing on active projects tracked on a kanban board, and tracking what actually got done in a running log. Keeping those two streams in sync — without switching tabs, without copy-pasting status updates, without maintaining two separate systems — is the core problem this dashboard solves. The left sidebar width is deliberately narrow (310px) so the kanban board gets the space it needs. The work log caps its height and scrolls internally so the sidebar never gets impossibly long.

⚠️ All data is stored in your browser's IndexedDB. Clearing site data for this domain permanently deletes your focus tasks, work log, and kanban projects. Use the Export buttons in both the sidebar toolbar and the Mini Kanban header regularly to keep backups. Backups are portable ZIP files you can import back on any device.

How to Use

  1. 1
Add today's focus tasksType a task in the "Add a task — input at the top of the left sidebar and press Enter. Each task gets a number. Check tasks off as you complete them — confetti fires when you clear your whole list. Double-click any task text to edit it inline. Drag tasks to reorder them.
  2. 2
Watch your streak and weekly progressThe stats strip below the tasks shows your current day streak, today's task completion, and log entry count. The weekly bar chart updates as you check tasks and log entries — use it as a quick visual accountability check.
  3. 3
Browse past days with the calendarClick any day in the monthly progress calendar to load that day's tasks and work log in the sidebar. Active days are highlighted with color intensity based on how much was done. Click "→ Today" in the section header to jump back to the current day.
  4. 4
Log what you actually didType in the "Add your log — textarea at the bottom of the sidebar and press Enter (or click "Log it"). Each entry is timestamped and added to the list above the input. Use the :) button to insert emoji. Attach files with the paperclip icon — images appear as thumbnails in the entry.
  5. 5
Search and scope log entriesUse the search box to filter entries by keyword. Switch the scope dropdown from "This day" to "All days" to search across your entire log history. Click "Logged Links" to open a panel listing every URL logged across all days — searchable and paginated.
  6. 6
Copy a daily summaryClick "Copy Summary" in the work log header to copy a formatted text block with your tasks and log entries for the selected day. Paste it into a standup message, a client email, or a weekly review doc.
  7. 7
Use the kanban board on the rightThe right panel is the full Mini Kanban board. Create projects, add columns, move tasks, set due dates, write rich text descriptions, attach images, and use the slideshow lightbox. Everything that works in the standalone Mini Kanban tool works here. Use the URL deep-link (/mini-kanban?p=<id>&t=<id>) to share a specific task with a collaborator.
  8. 8
Undo, redo, and manage backupsThe toolbar at the bottom of the sidebar shows Auto Saved, Undo, Redo, Import, Export, and Clear for the daily focus and log data. Export downloads a ZIP of all your daily data including file attachments. Import accepts backups from the Freelance Dashboard or the standalone Daily Focus Log tool. Undo and Redo step through your last 50 changes.
  9. 9
Choose a cloud-synced backup folderClick Folder in the sidebar toolbar to choose where Daily Focus exports should be saved. In Chrome or Edge desktop, select a local Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or iCloud Drive folder so exported ZIP backups sync automatically. Common Use Cases

🧑‍💻
Solo developer daily workflow
Open the dashboard at the start of the day. Add your three focus tasks in the left sidebar. Work through kanban cards on the right. Log what you actually shipped in the work log as you go. At standup time, hit Copy Summary and paste into Slack. Your day is documented without switching apps.
💼
Freelancer client work tracking
Keep client projects in the kanban board on the right — each client gets its own project with columns for Briefed, In Progress, In Review, and Done. As you work, log notes about blockers, decisions, and time spent in the work log on the left. Attach reference images and documents to log entries. At month end, export both the kanban ZIP and the daily log ZIP as project documentation.
📋
Daily standup and async updates
Check off focus tasks as you complete them. Log quick notes about what you did, what you discovered, and any blockers. Click Copy Summary at the end of the day to generate a formatted standup message with your tasks and log. Paste it directly into your team channel, client email, or weekly review.
🔗
Research and reference management
Paste URLs into log entries as you research — blog posts, documentation, Stack Overflow answers, GitHub issues. When you need to find one again, open the Logged Links panel to see all URLs sorted by date. Search by keyword or URL fragment to locate the reference instantly without scrolling through chat history.
📊
Productivity review and streak tracking
The weekly chart and monthly calendar show at a glance how consistently you are working. Use the day streak to build a habit. Click any past day to review exactly what you planned and what you logged. Compare your focus tasks against your work log entries to see how well your day matched your intentions.
🗂
Project switching during a workday
When you work on multiple client projects during the same day, the kanban board's project dropdown lets you switch context without losing your place. Your focus tasks and log for the day accumulate in the sidebar regardless of which kanban project is active — giving you a unified daily record even across multi-project days.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Freelance Dashboard shows both tools side by side in a single tab. Your daily focus tasks and work log are in the left sidebar; the kanban board is on the right. You never need to switch tabs between your planner and your project board. The data is identical — the same IndexedDB databases are used, so changes made here appear immediately in the standalone tools and vice versa.

Yes — they share the same database, so data stays in sync. If you make a change in the Freelance Dashboard sidebar and then switch to the standalone Daily Focus Log tab, refreshing it will show the same data. The same applies to Mini Kanban. Avoid making changes in both tabs simultaneously, as the last write wins.

Click the paperclip icon next to the textarea in the Work Log section. Select any file — max 25 MB. Images are shown as thumbnails in the log entry and can be clicked to view full-size in a lightbox. Non-image files (PDFs, Word documents, ZIPs, etc.) appear as file pills with a type icon, filename, and size, with a Download or Open button. Files are stored in the browser's IndexedDB and are included in the Export backup ZIP.

The Export button in the sidebar toolbar exports only the Daily Focus Log data — all your daily tasks, log entries, and file attachments across every day. It does not export the Mini Kanban data. To back up your kanban projects, use the Export Backup button in the Mini Kanban header on the right panel. Both exports produce portable ZIP files that can be imported back on any device.

Yes, in Chrome or Edge desktop. Click Folder in the sidebar toolbar and choose a local synced folder such as Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or iCloud Drive. Future Daily Focus exports from the dashboard save there when permission is available. The Mini Kanban board has its own Folder button on the right, so choose a folder there as well if you want project-board backups saved to the same cloud-synced location.

Yes — the Freelance Dashboard and the standalone Daily Focus Log use the same backup format. A ZIP exported from either tool can be imported into either. Click Import in the sidebar toolbar and select the ZIP file. Your days' tasks, log entries, and file attachments are merged with your current data.

Click "Logged Links" in the search row of the Work Log section. A slide-over panel opens listing every URL from every log entry across all days, sorted by most recent. Use the search box in the panel to filter by keyword or URL fragment. Scroll down and click "Load more" to see older entries (10 at a time). Each entry shows the date, time, and the full log text with clickable links.

Yes — the Freelance Dashboard is a fully client-side application. Once the page has loaded, it works without an internet connection. All data is read from and written to IndexedDB in your browser. The only thing that requires a connection is the initial page load.

Yes — clearing the site data or IndexedDB for this domain permanently deletes all your daily focus tasks, work logs, kanban projects, and attached files. Use the Export button in the sidebar toolbar to download a ZIP backup of your daily data, and use the Export Backup button in the Mini Kanban header to back up your projects. Import these ZIPs to restore on any device.

The streak counts how many consecutive days you have logged at least one entry or completed at least one task. It appears in the stats strip as a number with a 🔥 icon when active. Your best ever streak is shown below the current streak. The streak is calculated from today backward — if today has no activity yet, it checks yesterday.

Yes — click any day in the monthly progress calendar to load that day's tasks and log in the sidebar. The section header changes from "Today's Focus" and "What I Did Today" to the full date. A "→ Today" button appears so you can jump back to the current day. You can also edit past log entries and check off tasks on past days.

Click the :) button next to the log textarea. A picker opens upward with three groups: Smileys, Work, and Marks. Click any emoji to insert it at the current cursor position in the textarea. The picker closes automatically after insertion. The textarea resizes to fit the content after insertion.

In the Mini Kanban panel on the right, the URL automatically updates to include the current project ID and task ID as query parameters — for example /freelance-dashboard or /mini-kanban?p=<projectId>&t=<taskId>. Copying and sharing that URL will automatically open the correct project and task panel in the recipient's browser, as long as they have the same data (e.g., after importing a shared backup).

All data — tasks, log entries, attachments, kanban projects — is stored exclusively in your browser's IndexedDB. No data is uploaded to any server, no account is required, and no analytics are collected. This tool runs fully in your browser. The only network request is the initial page load from the server.
